Nails: The Unicorn and Mermaid Trend
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that the dominating trends of the year were the Unicorn trend and the Mermaid trend. Rainbow colours representing the Unicorn camp and irridescent marine colours representing the mermaid camp were on every product this year, from makeup to lattes. Culture writers have written countless thinkpieces over these trends, crediting millennial nostalgia in needing a boost of colourful magic in their lives. But there’s a simple explanation to this trend: they just look amazing on Instagram! If you’re not the type for and are hesitant to replace everything you own with mermaid themed products, get into these fun trends with your nails.

Nails: Minimalism with a twist
For the urban sophisticate, the go-to nail is a clean, French-girl classy neutral nail in muted pinks, beiges and greys. But if you’re a little bored with getting the same manicure all year, maybe it’s time to spice things up while still maintaining a chic and minimalist aesthetic. Marble always exudes a sense of class, and marble nails are no exception. Instead of having an entirely marbled manicure, get them on 2 nails on each hand to really highlight the uniqueness of this nail design. To add some sparkle to your look, take on the ombre trend with a neutral, barely there base with tips in a shimmery champagne colour.

Hair: Beachy Waves
Let’s face it. Having full, Victoria’s Secret levels of beachy waves is the ultimate hair goal. The look is a full bodied wave with highlights in all the right places to give hair a full look with lots of depth and shine. Balayage is a French technique of highlighting where the stylist uses hand painting to freehand the highlights into the hair for more natural looking sun-kissed hair. Another alternative would be ombre hair.

Hair: Bold Colours
The wave of colourful hair trends has been a welcome one with lots of cool and inventive ways to colour and style hair. Taking popular trends and putting it into hair is just another way to fully commit to an aesthetic. Although the galaxy trend has faded a little with the rise of the unicorn and mermaid trend, galaxy hair still looks utterly magical and one way to look like an IRL anime character.
Rose gold has remained an endearing trend as people commit to owning rose gold everything they can get their hands on. So why not rose gold hair too?
