The Entrepreneurship Journey
The Hairster Saloon was inherited from her mum
While many would have to start from scratch, Lydia was lucky enough to have entrepreneurship run in the family. In fact, she was the last one in her family to have her own venture and setup Beethovan HairXpert.
The Hairster was originally started more than 20 years ago by her mum. Having seen the happy faces of her mum’s clients since she was a child, she developed an interest in the industry, which led to her dream of opening her own salon.
Her mother’s determination and perseverance to run the business from a young age inspired her greatly. While managing all aspects of the business is difficult, she is grateful to her supportive staff and family. The support and encouragement she receives spur her on to work harder to accomplish her goals.
She finally started Beethoven Hairxperts herself after her brother told her about the opportunity. Seeing demand from her clients who are looking for one-stop shops, she decided to have her own shop offering a whole gamut of services for convenience.
Being an entrepreneur isn’t easy, but Lydia believes that being able to create something out of nothing is hugely satisfying and rewarding. She loves challenges and also wants to improve herself and bring herself and her team to great heights together.
The importance of passion
A strong believer of the importance of passion in all that she does, Lydia says that the best advice for new entrepreneurs is to simply follow your passion and strive to constantly improve.
Unique offerings
At The Hairster Saloon and Beethoven Hairxperts, the herbal hair colour and scalp treatment services are a must-try, says Lydia. It’s a service exclusive to her salons, using an exclusive herbal recipe bestowed upon her by hee mum.
It has helped countless people treat and colour their greying hair without using harmful chemicals. With their special techniques, they are able to use these natural herbs to even do multiple shades of browns that gives an effect similar to highlights. In addition to beautifying, the colouring process acts as a treatment to reduce hair loss, hair fall, and oiliness on the scalp.
Why the heartlands?
A salon for everything and everyone
Having lived in Yishun for most of her life, Lydia adores the strong sense of kampung spirit in the area. Her customers are like friends to her, and this makes her strive to provide quality services at affordable prices.
The love for her customers is apparent in the small details; not one to leave anyone out, her salons even have a Muslimah corner to cater to Muslim ladies.
As a recipient of the Vaniday Beauty And Wellness 2023 Award – Heartland Salons, Lydia feels very encouraged and says it spurs her own to take her business further. If money was not an issue, she says would love to open more outlets and bring in more unique beauty and wellness treatments for her customers.
